MINI-SOCCER CENTRE

 

 

Over the last few years AFC Henley has developed a thriving FA-registered Mini-Soccer Centre, which operates on Saturday mornings at Henley’s Tesco Sports Ground for children aged from 4 to 9 (Reception – Y4). It runs throughout the year from the beginning of September to the end of April on a ‘pay-as-you-go’ or ‘pay-up-front’ basis. The current cost per session for the normal Sept-April season is £5. However, parents may opt to pay for a full season’s membership at £90, or two half-seasons at £45 each (payments due in September and January).

 

 

Mini-Soccer Centres are ideal vehicles for introducing prospective young footballers to both the game of football and their local Henley club. Members are taught the basic skills of the game by professional coaches, including Andy Ritchie (UEFA ‘A’ Licence, ex-Chelsea, Southampton and Crystal Palace Youth Team coach) and Reading Football Club coaches. They are assisted by qualified in-house coaches.

 

 

The Mini-Soccer Centre focuses on skills training for the first hour, after which the age-groups disperse for team training under both volunteer managers (all FA qualified) and the Reading coaches. Teams are gradually introduced to competitive matches as they progress. These become more frequent as the children move up through the age-groups. U7s and 8s (Years 2 and 3) play friendly matches against local opposition, while the U9s (Year 4) play competitive games on Sundays in the South Chiltern Minor League.

 

 

FA guidelines advise against competitive games for U5s and U6s (Reception and Year 1), so there are no formal teams or matches against other clubs. They have assigned to them two dedicated, experienced coaches, both trained Primary School teachers with FA Level 3 qualifications, and their own area with scaled-down goals.  They train for just 60 mins from 10 – 11am.

 

 

After the end of the normal season, from the beginning of May, we run a “Summer Premiership”. Again, the fee structure will be a choice of per session or up-front and the training will continue to be managed by our outside professional coaches.
