What is the Mini-Soccer Centre?

AFC Henley's FA-affiliated Mini-Soccer Centre offers a carefully managed introduction to club football, with skills training provided by top UEFA 'A' Licence coach, Andy Ritchie, who has had 20 years’ experience of teaching, coach education and coaching young footballers aged 7 - 21 at the highest level. Andy was U15 -17 Team Manager and U19 Assistant Youth Team Manager at Chelsea, working with England captain John Terry, and also at Southampton, working with Theo Walcott. He was Assistant Academy Director (9-16) and U17 Manager at Charlton Athletic and, at Crystal Palace, Centre of Excellence Director (U9-U16) and U17 Manager. He has also worked with Welsh international Gareth Bale at Tottenham. Andy has an honours degree in Physical and Personal/Social Education and has studied the youth policies at Juventus FC in Italy, Olympic Lyon FC in France and Borussia Mönchengladbach FC in Germany. He taught games and PE to 4–11 year olds at St Mary’s School, Henley, for 7 years. Exceptional players may be recommended by Andy Ritchie to academies run by Football League clubs.

Competitive matches

FA guidelines advise against competitive games for U5s and U6s (Reception and Year 1), so there are no formal teams or matches for them against other clubs. U5s and U6s train for just 60 minutes, U7s (Y2) and U8s (Y3) for 90 minutes. Y3 (U8) members are gradually introduced to competitive matches and may play in occasional 'Football Festivals' involving visiting clubs . They progress eventually to 7-a-side league football at U9.

How to join

If anyone would like to join the Mini-Soccer Centre they should come to AFC Henley’s Reading Road Ground (opposite Tesco) on a Saturday morning from 9am and register at the gate, or, for more information and advice, call our Mini-Soccer Centre Manager:
