A display of great teamwork underpinned another strong performance from the Henley Hurricanes U9s away at Finchampstead Phantoms last Saturday. The coaches took the opportunity to give players experience in different positions during the game, and they worked together well in a number of different formations.
Despite overnight rain, the match started in sunshine, and the Hurricanes’ play was equally bright as they challenged the Finchampstead goal. Despite conceding early, the Phantoms tested the Hurricanes. The sight of four or five white Hurricanes shirts defending was a feature of the match.
The second quarter saw more goals for the Hurricanes. The efficient midfield play supplied regular chances to the forwards. Overall the match saw Oscar Robinson, Will Goulden, Jack Callaway, Shiva Vadhoolan, Nicholas Hernandez St Clair and Dominic Ellis on the score sheet.
The third quarter continued in the same vein as the previous two, with the Hurricanes attacking strongly, and defending robustly against the Phantoms’ challenges. A new defensive partnership of Dominic Ellis in goal and Will Goulden in defence was effective, with man-of-the-match Shiva Vadhoolan now playing further forward. The final quarter saw the Phantoms push for a goal, and they were perhaps unlucky not to be rewarded. However, the Hurricanes ended the match in the stronger position.
