AFC Henley Hotshots marked their debut in the Oxfordshire County Cup with an excellent 3–0 victory away to Stonesfield FC.

After travelling for more than an hour to reach the venue, Henley faced unfamiliar opposition in what proved to be an enjoyable cup adventure and an excellent advertisement for Oxfordshire grassroots football.

The visitors started brightly and created several early chances. William S had a goal disallowed for offside before going close again shortly afterwards.

Henley eventually made the breakthrough following a corner that was flicked back towards Harvey. His resulting cross found Sam B, who applied a composed finish to give the Hotshots the lead.

The opening goal allowed Henley to settle into the match and enjoy long periods of possession. Stonesfield remained organised and defended with great determination, ensuring the visitors carried only a narrow advantage into half-time.

Henley doubled their lead early in the second half through a well-rehearsed set-piece routine. Harvey delivered an excellent corner and Bailey rose to head the ball home.

The Hotshots continued to create opportunities, with Seb S striking the woodwork twice and William S remaining a constant attacking threat. Stonesfield’s goalkeeper produced an outstanding performance, making at least six excellent saves to prevent Henley from extending their advantage further.

Henley’s Player of the Day was Freddie P, whose pace, skill and positive running down the right created numerous opportunities for his teammates throughout the match.

The third goal arrived after Sam B was brought down inside the penalty area. Goalkeeper Riley stepped forward to take the resulting spot kick and finished confidently, opening his scoring account for the season.

Stonesfield deserve great credit for their committed defending and the exceptional performance of their goalkeeper. The match was competitive, enjoyable and played in an excellent spirit by both teams.

Henley return home with three goals, a clean sheet and a place in the third round of the Oxfordshire County Cup.
