The new 3G pitch was officially opened at Jubilee Park this month, with Mayor Tom Buckley guest of honour at a special celebration.
The Mayor was joined by representatives from The FA, The Football Foundation, Oxfordshire FA and Henley Town council to open a facility that will be a huge asset for the community.
Players and Coaches from AFC Henley, fresh from a match on the new surface were treated to cakes and entertainment at a wonderful event attended by over 30 people.
In his speech Mayor Tom thanked the many people who have helped turn a dream into reality, notably Cath Adams (HTC) and Gilly Lea (AFC Henley) for their efforts over what has been an eight year journey.
Cllr Buckley said: “This fantastic new 3G facility is the result of real teamwork. It will encourage more people of all ages to get active, train, and enjoy sport in Henley throughout the year.”
Former AFC Henley chair, Trevor Howell, who initiated and guided the project an behalf of the club was particularly happy to see training capacity increased for footballers in Henley.
